The mechanical properties of arterial walls play an important role in the regulation of cardiovascular hemodynamics. In the past decades, arterial wall dynamics attracted much attention and several methods have been proposed to assess the mechanical properties of the human arteries [1].Wave speed in a thin-walled, uniform, elastic vessel containing an incompressible fluid (blood), is related directly to the distensibility via the Bramwell-Hill expression, and distensibility is one of the factors to assess the mechanical properties of the vessel walls [2]. The aim of the present study is to develop a method to measure wave speed and distensibility of the vascular conduit noninvasively, and also test experimentally the relative accuracy of this method for measuring wave speed and distensibility in elastic tubes.
