A study was conducted to derive new groundwater mounding equations that aresimple in their structures but produce reasonable values for conditions mostcommonly found in stormwater infiltration facilities. This paper presents the newsimplified equations and their theoretical development. The equations apply toSteady–uniform recharge rate to infinite homogenous aquifers with initiallyhorizontal water table and bedrock surfaces. Separate sets of equations werederived for recharge strips (infiltration channels/trenches) and infiltration basins(round or square facilities). The equations for recharge strips were publishedpreviously. This paper presents the equations for round or square facilities. The newequation sets require minimum input data in terms of the size and shape of thefacility, the properties of the saturated layer and the recharge rate and areconvenient for routine engineering calculations. Example applications of the newequation sets for conditions typical in New Jersey are presented.
