Raw sewage discharges from Combined Sewer Overflows(CSO’s) during rainfall canseverely impact drinking water quality. Drinking water risk assessment studies in thepast have not adequately captured the event driven temporal fluctuations in source waterquality. This is despite the knowledge that fecal contamination of source watersis impacted by rainfall and long-term accumulated risks are affected by event drivenconcentration peaks. This paper presents a simple methodology to estimate the entericpathogen loadings into the receiving water as a result of combined sewer overflows.The proposed methodology is more suitable for risk assessment studies to formulatepolicies for public health protection.
