Well logging technology has played an irreplaceable role in the oil and gas exploration, and is becoming increasingly important in the deep oil and gas exploration. However, well logging interpretation technology for natural gas exploration can not be copied to coal bed methane exploration. Generally coal bed methane well logging technology has two direction of development, one is the new interpretation methods of the conventional logging data, the other is the new well logging methods. This paper introduced several methods in calculating such important parameters as porosity, permeability and gas content and discussed the application of the principal component analysis, Wavelet analysis to well log interpretation of coal seams by a case study.
