Chemical Looping Combustion has emerged as one of the very promising technologies for CO_2 capture with coal-fired power generation with significant performance improvements compared to alternatives.Currently, Lab and 10 KW pilot tesls with solid fuck have been completed. Tests have demonstrated the viability of the concept for various oxygen carriers. The decision to build a 1 MWth pilot, based on circulating fluidizcd bed technology, has also been made and has received financial support from FIT-RFCS. This pilot will be commissioned in 2010 and will represent an important milestone leading to the larger scale demonstration of the technology.
