Automatic OnlineMonitoring of SO3 Condensables

The negative effects of varying and elevated levels of SO3 in utility flue gas streamshave been well documented. Air Heater fouling and corrosion, diminished unit heatrate, compromised ESP performance, compromised mercury capture when usingActivated Carbon Injection and Blue Plume release have all captured center stage intechnical conferences and research Investigations. To effectively mitigate theseproblems several viable technologies have been introduced and field tested. However,only recently has an equally viable method for measurement and control of theseprocesses been introduced. This presentation will document the field experience of theBreen AbSensor technology for onlinemeasurement of SO3/Sulfuric Acid Vapor in fullscale plant settings. The presentation will cover control of mitigation chemical injectionat various locations in the gas stream, the impact of SO3 control on SCR MinimumOperating Temperature and SCR Nox reduction capability.
