Study on Government Function in Development of Ecological Buildings

In order to solve the contradiction between economic growth and environment protection, the sustainable development theory has been put forward. Being an active reaction to the sustainable development theory, ecological architecture is a concrete embodiment in the architecture field and recently becomes a focus in the world. In recent years, the lack of the resource and the environment pollution are the serious problems in China, so it has no time to delay for the development of ecological building. However, the acceptance of ecological building has been slow process. The paper analyses the obstacles to develop ecological building, for instance, that investment could be increased, evaluation system should be improved, the construction technology has not been mature enough yet and ecological income is hard to weigh, These decide that the development of ecological building is not possible to depend only on market regulation and government must participate in developing ecological buildings. The paper makes research on government function in the promoting ecological buildings, and makes suggestions how to do on the side of government. In more specific terms, the government department should play a dominant role in prompting the ecological building development, such as cultivating evaluation organizations, stimulating measures to different subjects, using financial and economic measures, setting up relevant law system, developing authentication system of ecological building and so on. The author hopes that the measures could strengthen government function in the development of ecological buildings and guarantee the sustainable development of our architecture field.
