A great deal of progress has been made in ground improvement techniques during recent years, however, there is still much deviation between the expectation and the final effect of a selected method of ground improvement. The reason for this is that the properties of the rock and soil are hard to measure exactly and the construction sites are full of uncertain factors so that the decision-making process for selecting a proper ground improvement methods based on relative theory analysis are not reliable enough. Therefore, in many cases the experience is still more important for initially selecting ground improvement methods to be taken further consideration. The aim of this paper is to present an innovative intelligent decision support model for selecting method of ground improvement based on the Expert System (ES) and Case-based Reasoning (CBR). The function and framework of each module of the model is explained in the paper. In addition, the pilot application of the corresponding computerized decision support system to a typical constructing factory building in Jiangsu Province of China showed the model’s practical efficient.
