Opportunities and Challenges of China Construction Industry under the Global Financial Crisis

Currently, the global financial crisis is rampant coupled with a cyclical macroeconomic adjustment. Under the dual pressures of domestic and abroad economic growth problems, the Chinese government proclaims policies stimulating domestic demand in order to increase the investment in fixed assets to maintain the macroeconomic steady and rapid development. As for the construction industry which is the most directly and obviously influenced by the investment in fixed assets, this is an unprecedented opportunity. Railway transport industries, the process of urbanization in rural areas, as well as the reconstruction of disaster areas in Sichuan Province will speed up the pace by the support of the policy. This paper puts forward a four-point proposal on how to grasp this opportunity to meet the challenges for the construction industry.
