Incomplete penetration,as a common pressure pipe welding defect,may lead to the reduction of load carrying capacity of the pipe,and serious accidents. By simplifying the effect factors of pressure piping containing incomplete penetration defect,the relation between the plastic limit loads and main effect factors was studied based on the analysis of the elastic-plastic finite element. A fitted formula for plastic limit load of pressure piping containing incomplete penetration defect was given. An experimental system used for testing the limit load of pressure piping under combined loads was designed,the experimental results are consistent with those from FEA. On the basis of results of FEA and experiments,a safety evaluation method for pressure piping containing incomplete penetration defect under combined loads is proposed.
