Polyurethane microcapsules containing olive oil were prepared by interfacial polymerization with toluene-2,4-diisocyanate (TDI) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) as monomers and with nonionic surfactants as emulsifier in the emulsion system.The processing factors affecting microcapsule formation,such as emulsifier type,temperature,stirring speed,and the molecular weight of PEG,were investigated.The emulsification ability of various emulsifiers for olive oil system was evaluated by laser particle sizer analysis and microscopy analysis.The mixed emulsifier of Tween-80 with PVA was a good emulsifier,able to make the resultant olive oil emulsion system stable to temperature change.The SEM analysis confirmed that the microcapsules prepared using the mixed emulsifier were more uniform in particle size and shape than those prepared using other single or mixed emulsifiers,with an average particle size of 3-5μm and a narrow particle size distribution.The SEM analysis also showed that the surface of microcapsules made by PEG600 was more porous and rougher than those by PEG800,suggesting the quicker release property.
