The placement of leak detecting sensors plays an important role in early warning and prevention of fire, explosion and poisoning accidents in storage tank farm. However, up to now there have been no quantitative evaluation criteria, and the placement of detecting nodes is mainly determined by roughly designed experiments or practical experience. This paper studies the setup of leak detecting sensors on the base of statistical analysis of equipment malfunction and leak accidents of storage tank farm, introduces the continuous leak theory to calculate and analyze the concentration distribution of typical leakage, and by combing the engineering practical experiences and detecting meters' performance investigation like sensitivity and response time, proposes optimized placement principles and density of the leak detecting sensors on storage tank farm.
