Energy reduction has been the biggest issue of the world recently due to of oil price increases and global warming.Building energy reduction is very important because building criteria accounts for about 40% of the final energy used in the world. In other words, the possibility of energy reduction in the building sector is much higher than that of other sectors.Usually, the window is thermally the weakest part in buildings, but it becomes larger in Korea recently. In this study,a double window system is suggested as an energy reducing technology in residential building, especially apartment housing. This system consists of double windows with Low-E glass and a shading device and it is operated with a hybrid ventilation strategy. To prove this system's energy efficiency, energy simulations were performed using ESP-r. Four cases, including the base model were executed to prove each component's performance, double windows, hybrid ventilation and shading device. The result shows heating load reduction by 36% through enhancement of the thermal resistance and cooling load by 44% using hybrid ventilation and a shading device. The integrated double window system has a 38% reduction rate of annual heating and cooling load.
