摘要

The modernization of computer environment in mapping context has vastly increased the possibilities of spatial and non-spatial data visualization. A dramatically change of data representation from two dimensional flat terrain to three dimensional models is being created by this new approach in tourism industry all over the world. To cater effectively for the requirements of the modern world tourism, combination of GIS, Web cartography, databases and visualization aspects of spatial and non-spatial data could be applied. Upgrading the communication ability of the maps providing updated information, a comprehensive Tourist Information System (TIS) can be introduced to Sri Lanka affecting tourist and tourism management. This paper explores the flexibility and suitability of the use of three dimensional models and other availabilities accommodated in GIS environment on the web. The reconstruction period of Galle region affected by Tsunami may be a correct time period to make a conversion for tourist information providing system from the existing hardcopies to digital environment. Then the integration of spatial and non-spatial data in TIS is applicable to other cities or whole country.
