The Industrial Efficiency Alliance, A Broad Based Attempt to Achieve Market Transformation in the Pacific NW for Motors, Pumps, Compressed Air and Refrigeration Equipment

In 2005 the North West Energy Efficiency Alliance (NWEEA) embarked on an ambitious attempt to achieve market transformation in key industries within the US Pacific North West. The NVCEEA has earlier run a number of programs within non-industrial sectors. Now it was time to address industrial energy usage in the two largest industrial user communities, the food industry and the pulp and paper industries. An elaborate matrix organization with specific industry specialist and technical specialist was created. The basic idea being that several levels within the end- user industries would be targeted and reached through educational efforts and demonstration projects. The paper describes how the effort is financed and supported in a unique cooperation between utilities, NGOS and manufacturers of industrial equipment-A true alliance of partners from different sectors of society. The paper will give a review of the organization that was created, its goals and objectives and to some extent the results achieved so far. A number of new educational tools have been created and used together with existing material like Envinta 1 to 5 in order to educate the end users about the possibilities to saving energy. A review of these various courses and how they are used will be made. Finally a review of lessons learned so far will also be made.
