BUILDING DAMAGE ASSESSMENT IN GALLE DISTRICT OVER THE CONSTRUCTION OF SOUTHERN HIGHWAY USING SATELLITE IMAGES

摘要

The southern high way project of Sri Lanka is supported by The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Japan Business Corporation (JBIC) and it is expected to reduce drive time to 1 1/2 hours from the current four hours travel time between Colombo and Matara .This highway stretches 128 Km long and will improve access from Colombo to the Southern region .The highway is connected to the existing road network every 10 to 15 km providing access to the entire south west region. The development of this highway made much destruction of buildings over the construction area.This paper analysis how much the destruction of buildings made over the construction of this huge project by analyzing Quick bird Satellite images and available topographic data on this region. The analysis is limited to a part of the highway falling in to the Galle District.
