SUSTAINING PRODUCTION IMPROVEMENTS IN THE ECHO WEST JAVA FIELD THROUGH BP'S COMMON PROCESS

Echo field is one of the mature fields offshore in West Java and part of the BP Migas PSC concession system operated by BP. Following 35 years production, through good coordination, planning, and continuing improvements, the Echo team has been successful in improving and sustaining production from the field. The team has succeeded in boosting Echo's production from 6000 bopd at end of 2005 to 18,000 bopd during 2006. We have been able to maintain this production level. The purpose of this paper is to highlight these successes as a result of implementing BP's common process to improve and sustain field production.There are three BP common processes that inspired the Echo team in its management of the field. The first is the Production Efficiency Improvement common process (PEIcp), which requires the embedding of sustainable concepts to optimize production capacity, increase production volumes, and reduce lifting costs through eliminating unplanned losses. The Base Management common process (BMcp), which is to aid the delivery of Proved Developed (PD) reserves by providing a framework that focuses on value add activities and expectations surrounding delivery. The Opportunity Progression common process (OPcp) is a common process that creates and sustains the future of the asset through practicing reservoir management, utilizing the opportunity progression hopper, and updating depletion planning to maximize value by reaching and redefining the technical limits.Inline with the local BP company paradigm, starting in 2003 Echo field was fully operated by Indonesians. The Echo field team is evidence that an Indonesian team was capable of professionalism and professional results which were reflected in production improvements and the winning of the Paul Martin award. This award is awarded for best production achievement and the winner is chosen from BP Global participants.
