A research team was organized by Korean Society for Explosives and Blasting Engineers (KSEE) in 2006 to establish the surface blasting guide for road construction of the Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT) of Korea. The mission was completed and the guide became effective from this year. Important contents are as follows.General prediction equation of vibration to design the surface blast is v=200(SD)1.60.Surface blasting is classified as 6 categories depending on charge weight per delay.Type Ⅰ, Low Vibration Breaking, is defined for the case that structure is very close and traditional blasting technique cannot be applied. Cautious blasting techniques are included in this category with other breaking methods like hydraulic expansion machines and expansion powders.Standard procedure to monitor the test blasting vibration and noise is suggested.
