Extraction of The ancient Amazon civilization using TERRA/ASTER data

There was once the ancient civilization that had advanced civil engineering, hydrological technology and agriculture in the Mojos Plain, Bolivia. However, the civiliza tion has not been yet fully elucidated because access is not easy. This study aimed at identification and extraction of the remains of the ancient Am azon civilizati on using remote sensing data. Identification was carried out using color composite image and Digital Elevation Model (DEM) made from ASTER data. The image was acquired in dry season. While the most of area had low vegetation, the remains had relati vely high vegetation in the image. Using this phenomenon, NDVI image and DEM were generated. It was show n that the roads expanded radially fro m the mounds of habitation area.
