As expected, lubrication was one of the challenges linked to the Dual Scroll compressor development. The Engineering group learned a lot during early phase of reliability testing. A large amount of data and information was gathered and analyzed to understand the limitation of the first design. The compressor failures and part inspection after reliability testing directly pointed out poor lubrication as a potential issue for the life of the compressor. All data (such oil pressure measurement, oil sump temperature…) collected during these tests through the laboratory monitoring and acquisition system helped to understand oil pump behavior and its weaknesses.
