An experimental study was performed to evaluate the effect of variable opening (VEEV) and fixed opening (FEEV) electronic expansion valves, on the performance of variable speed (VSC) and single speed (SSC) vapor compression refrigeration systems. It has been found that, independently of the secondary fluid temperature entering the heat exchangers, the VSC/VEEV system always operates with a maximum coefficient of performance (COP), and delivers a cooling capacity that exactly matches the refrigeration load.
