Until recently, increasing the capacity of a single-screw compressor required the diameter of the screw rotor or gate rotor to be increased. As a solution to this problem, we have developed a new compressor design using a fan-toothed gate rotor, which enables capacity increase without changing the external diameter. In order to adopt the fan-shaped tooth profile, we first calculated the groove volume by measuring various fan angles and the gate rotor (hereinafter "GR") tooth volumes after insertion in the screw rotor (hereinafter "SR"). Our new compressor design enabled approximately 30% capacity increase with the same screw rotor diameter compared with a screw rotor with a parallel tooth profile.
