Based on the study of SAE J1939 and CAN protocol on the basis of principles and application, a new CANBUS application layer protocol aimed at the specific requirements of information transmission on Hybrid-Electric Vehicle (HEV) control systems was designed to meet the requirement of HEV control systems communications. The protocol classed messages of HEV control networks according as requirement of real-time scientifically, and distributed the priority of messages in accordance to the importance of messages reasonably.According to J1939, The new message structure was defined in accordance with 29 bits identifier of CAN2.0B (CAN extension frame) in the established protocol and the two ways communication of broadcast and point-to-point were realized. At last, the new protocol for 4 nodes in more energy source control system in HEV: vehicle control unit, engine control unit, the motor control unit and the battery management system was simulated in CANoe software system. The results of simulation indicated that the new protocol has features of small network load and good real-time when it is applied in the development of Hybrid-Electric Vehicle more energy sources power-train control system.
