The Almex LARS™ HF Series Degassing and Metal Purification System; a Novel Approach to Vessel Design

The requirement from batch type billet casthouses for a low cost, flexible, and user friendly degassing unit has prompted the development of the Almex LARS™ HF Series Degassing System. Frequent alloy changes and minimal set-up times have forced billet producers to demand a system which will keep pace with required production cycles. The HF Series of degassing units was developed to meet this demand and has been designed from the floor up to provide the optimum combination of performance and operating simplicity.These criteria demanded a fresh review of molten aluminum reaction vessel design and have prompted a unique and revolutionary approach to vessel construction. This paper describes the characteristics and demands placed on the design of these systems and the engineering, materials and construction solutions implemented to meet these requirements.
