Press felt design is an important variable in optimizing the shoe press performance. There are also a number of operational tools at the papermaker's disposal and some beyond their control that also have a huge influence in how well the press performs. This is one case where understanding these parameters helped in fitting the design goals of the clothing and the press and includes a review of some tools available thanks to shoe press technology.
