Up to now, all kinds of solar cells have been almost developed based on the types that are designed to receive sunlight with a flat surface, and “cosine” losses would exist due to the fact that the direct sunlight was not normal to the flat surface of solar cells during a day except noon. Here we show a new structure of dye-sensitized solar cells for receiving sunlight from 3-dimensioal space. The results show that sunlight could always be obtained by half flank area of this solar cell symmetrically whatever sun is at any elevation and azimuth angle, which means that it can track the sun passively without energy consumption. Thus, the problem of “cosine” losses for flat solar cell could be solved.
