This paper presents a listing of potential techniques for the recovery of carbon dioxide (CO_2)from flue gas of fossil-fired power plants, and a discussion of the developmental stage of thetechnologies. In addition, the paper addresses the impacts of CO_2 recovery on power plants. Thepaper discusses the physical and chemical properties of CO_2 and it describes typical massbalances for fossil power plants (related to CO_2). This analysis also provides a discussion of theflue gas CO_2 recovery process on the existing air quality control equipment at the power plant. Inaddition, the paper presents a list of different fossil plant designs with regard to CO_2 issues. Italso provides a discussion of permit issues related to carbon capture and storage (CCS) systems.The paper includes a description of possible methods to dispose or reuse the CO_2, or theconversion of the CO_2 to by-products.
