With continual pressure for cost down in today's global markets, manufacturers are looking for ways to reduce overall part cost. Shorter cycle times coupled with improved processability without sacrificing properties are practical methods in reducing production cost. The use of peroxides as the cross-linking agent in Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (HNBR) has been well established as standard practice. This is especially important as HNBR compounds are needed for thermal stability and compression set resistance. This study will evaluate a new generation of scorch-retarded peroxides and the use of liquid co-agents for injection molding applications. Improvements in processing are achieved through the use of new peroxides which delay the onset of scorch. The use of liquid co-agents will be shown to improve processability by lowering the compound viscosity with no loss of original or aged physical properties.
