In the conventional closed fuel cycle, recoveredminor actinides are treated and stored as high levelwastes. Partitioning and transmutation engineeringtechnologies offer their incineration and may potentiallyprovide additional fuel supply.The proposed earlierDeep-Burn concept suggests thermal neutrontransmutation of minor actinides in the HTGR prismaticcores taking advantage of actinide nuclear properties.
