Wind energy source is being increasingly recognized as cost effective generation sources in small isolated power system (SIPS) primarily supplied by costly diesel fuel. A relatively high wind energy penetration can significantly reduce the system fuel cost but can also have considerable impact on the system reliability for the randomness and fluctuation of wind speed. This paper present a model based on fictitious demand to perform SIPS reliability study including wind turbine generators (WTGs). Finally, a small case study is used to illustrate the application of the model and the approach. The impacts of WTGs on the overall SIPS reliability indexes are also investigated.
