摘要

Side-chain liquid crystalline polymers (SCLCP) could be formed by attaching rigid mesogenic units to a flexible polymer backbone. Decoupling of the side groups by inserting flexible spacer allows the main chain to accommodate the anisotropic arrangement of the mesogenic side groups and the polymer may exhibit liquid crystalline (LC) properties. Therefore, SCLCPs are able to combine desirable properties of LCs and polymers. Mainly calamitic and discotic mesogenic units have been used for such liquid crystalline polymers.
