Portable power source with low temperature operated PAFC

An air-cooled phosphoric acid fuel cell (PAFC) is being developed.The portable power unit, which has an output power of several hundredwatts, is discussed. The cell performance changes depending on theoperating temperature. Although the performance is reduced by loweringthe operation temperature, the cell voltage of about 670 mV is obtainedeven at a low temperature of 100° C, by using pure hydrogen as afuel. The electrolyte and cell service life are considered. For theportable power unit with a PAFC operator at a low temperature, the basiccharacteristics were obtained in the operation test of a 250 W brassboard model. The operation data, consisting of voltage, current,temperature, pressure, etc., of the 250 W portable power unit are shown
