The size and shape of individual particles are essentialcharacteristics to control their behavior during spraying.Thanks to recently available technology in powder imageanalysis, this paper investigates the correlation between thegeometric properties of several thousands of particles and theirflowability (Hall flowmeter) and apparent density (Scottvolumeter). Four different chromium carbide Cr3C2-NiCr75/25 powders used for HVOF wear / oxidation resistantcoatings are studied. The coating quality obtained for eachpowder by the HVOF spraying process is further investigatedusing metallographic image analysis.
