The Gas Industry in Malaysia

Driven by the current pace of economic expansion, and barring adverse external economic shocks emanating from the global economic situation, the Malaysian economy is projected to sustain a favourable growth rate of about 6% between 2006 and 2010, Key to Malaysia's favourable growth projection is the availability and security of energy supply, especially oil and gas in the primary energy mix that will continue to generate growth of various sectors of the economy. To ensure sustainable development of Malaysia's energy resources, and to facilitate the implementation of the long-term national development strategy, a number of policy measures were instituted namely The National Depletion Policy, 1980, The Four-Fuel Diversification Strategy, 1981, The Five-Fuel Diversification Strategy, 1999.
