Today, due to the difficulties to master the arc energy distribution between the work piece and the fillerwire, conventional MIG processes don’t comply easily high productivity and high quality of the weldingof thin sheet.Obviously this drawback is the main advantage of the TIG process which induces good quality andsoundness of the beads .But TIG has low productivity and it needs for the wire orientationsupplementary robot axis which is a constrain in term of accessibility.Based on the use of the standard robots, new concept of the RoboTIG torch has been developed withthe same accessibility criteria and similar productivity performances than the MIG process.Now in the new torch, the wire is passing through the nozzle close to the electrode and is melteddirectly in the arc not in the molten pool as usual.And wire and electrode have the common impact in the work piece with the usual distanceelectrode/work piece.In these conditions, 2 kind of wire transfer are available:-the first (at low wire feed speed) with specific droplet which improves the cosmetic appearance of thebead (like waves in TIG manual)-the second with continuous liquid bridge between the wire and the molten pool increases significantlythe welding speed (3 times of the conventional TIG welding speed).In the new torch are also integrated an automatic electrode change ,the dual flux gas nozzle and apush pull wire feeder.This RoboTIG process [TOPTIG TM ] allows a good mastering of the arc welding and arcbrazing of the thin sheet with the open application potential .
