BALO is a program package for BWR assemblylattice optimization, and it has three major components: aBWR fast lattice simulator (FLS)(1), a BWR latticeoptimizer (OPTM), and a BWR assembly latticeinteractive and automated design tool (ALAADIN)(2).The current version of BALO has greatly reduced thetime required for lattice design iteration with goodaccuracy over the entire design range, Kinf. within0.0005, and MPP (maximum pin power factor) within 1%compared with CASMO4(3). This paper summarizes thenewly developed BWR lattice perturbation theory forFLS, the optimization algorithms used in OPTM, and theBALO test results.
