The heat and flow in a heat pipe is solved by the software called as Finite Element Program Generator (FEPG). By writing a couple of short files in a special language based on the weak form of the partial differential equations and the given solving algorithm, the finite element source code can be generated by machine. The highlight of the solving procedure in using FEPG is described. The coupling of the momentum field and the temperature field in a heat pipe is realized by manipulation of the conditions on the vapor/liquid interface. For a typical water heat pipe, the calculated results on the distribution of pressure, velocity and temperature inside the heat pipe are illustrated. This numerical analysis tool can be further used to predict the performance and optimize the design of heat pipes. Complicated problems with coupled multi- physics fields like a heat pipe can be solved by FEPG in a more convenient and easy way. It can be said that FEPG represents a new generation of software in a certain sense.
