The high frequency planer transformer linkphase-shift edge-resonant ZVS-PWM DC-DC power convertershave some advantageous such as constant switching frequencyPWM control, lowered switching losses, high power density,reduced EMI and RFI noises and quick transient responses.However, these DC-DC power converters suffer from somedrawbacks such as load dependent soft-switching commutationoperation, restrictive operating ranges of ZVS PWM-basedvoltage regulation, insufficient actual efficiency under light loadconditions because of inherent large circulating and idlingcurrents. In order to overcome these significant problems, anovel isolated DC-DC power converter with stable and efficientsoft-switching phase-shifted PWM in the high frequency planertransformer secondary-side is proposed with the aid of theauxiliary two active power switches in series with either right orleft leg of full-bridge or center tapped diode rectifier. Theoperation principle of this DC-DC power converter is presentedand discussed, together with its practical effectiveness. The widesoft-switching operating ranges from full load to an extremelylight load, and high efficiency voltage and power regulation dueto reduced circulating current in the primary side as well asdesign considerations are evaluated and discussed on the basisof simulation analysis and experimental results obtained byimplementing a 2 kW and 40 kHz breadbord converter setup.
