Numerical solution of the electromagnetic field equations is particularly important in three dimensions and arbitrary shaped applications, which leads to computationally intensive numerical optimizations using standard schemes for solving Maxwell's equations, such as finite differences, finite integral or finite element methods. The present paper intends to motivate an extensive discussion on the available methods and a possible need for future development of novel methodical approaches.
