Massively multiplayer online games and other multi-user based networked applications are becoming a big business today. With the recent deployment of broadband access technologies, the increase of the number of participants is putting pressure on such kind of systems which is called networked virtual environments. This paper presents a scalable communication scheme for constructing large-scale networked virtual environments. In our approach, each of the participating entities connects to other entities with unicast based on the importance of the relationship in the virtual environment, thus we minimize the latency between users and make the system scalable. Furthermore, we use distributed hash table (DHT)-based divided network reorganization scheme in order to overcome the network division problem of the peer-to-peer network. This communication scheme can reduce the latency between interacting entities in a scalable manner.
