This paper deals with chemical quality of ground water as well as surface water in relation with the geology of the area in order to make an appraisal of the quality of ground water both for drinking and irrigation purposes. Water samples have been collected and detailed chemical analysis has been carried out various geochemical parameters like Sodium Absorption Ratio, Kelley's Ratio, Eaton's Index and Collin's Ratio have been determined to assess the quality of ground water for drinking and irrigation purpose. The result of cations and anions indicate that ground water is suitable for drinking. However the high salinity as well as high conductivity might be on account of precipitation of salt in ground water. The precipitation of salt to a great extent is being caused by over saturation of the topsoil on account of availability of water in plenty. The geological reason for high conductivity and salinity has been investigated and has been discussed in this paper.
