Using the consumption residues-shell and the industrial refuse-red mud as the coal combustion desulfurization sorbent, their sulfation reactivity and desulfurization characteristics are studied under the condition of the combustion of fluidized-bed, the mold coal combustion, and the thermal analysis, respectively. During the study, the optimal desulfurization temperature is obtained and changeable tendency of the calcium utilization of the shells and the limestone as well as the shells and the red mud is compared. The results show that the shells and the red mud are suited as the coal combustion desulfurization sorbent. The optimal desulfurzation temperature of the shells is in a broad temperature range about 900~1000°C.In the condition of the fluidized-bed, the calcium utilization of the shells is 5 percent to 35 percent higher than that of the limestone, while that of the compound desulfurization sorbent which is con-fected by s6~# shell and the red mud is 3 percent to 17 percent higher than that of the pure shells and the pure red mud.
