The aim of this study is to analyze the microclimatic characteristics and assess the human thermal comfort in dwelling areas of a city. A comprehensive measurement has been carried out in a semi-close building cluster of a residential district. The experimental results demonstrate that outdoor microclimate is affected by many factors. The macroclimatic parameters such as solar radiation, wind speed, and dry bulb air temperature play an important role in the district thermal environment. But many other factors make a great contribution to the local thermal environment, for example building configuration, wall surface characteristics, vegetations, layout, etc. The piloti arranged at some buildings can improve the ventilation and cool the air of the courtyards remarkably.
