MOVING 10 GIGABIT ETHERNET INTO CARRIER NETWORKS

Early 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) deployments have been limited predominantly to research labs, supercomputing facilities and the occasional graphics house. Far from the widespread adoption analysts were predicting, these few deployments point to a noticeable lack of carrier interest in deploying 10 GbE. This paper discusses the reasons why carriers will face the need for 10 GbE in their networks and the technological and product changes that will be required prior to the adoption of 10 GbE in carrier networks.
