ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION ON CONCRETE

摘要

Sustainability is a priority topic on the present policy agenda and will surely remain that position as long as the world population and consumption increase. Within the field of environmental issues the ranking of priorities is driven by emotions and incidents rather than based on rational arguments. The reason is mainly a lack of knowledge on long term effects and data on monitoring of those. It is not to the concrete world to study these effects but the industry can assemble the impacts of their products in terms of emissions (CO_2, SO_2 etc) and immissions in the products life cycle. Such environmental information is demanded more and more by its clients. The availability of environmental information on concrete is also required to be prepared whenever an environmental issue is suddenly rising on the priority list. The paper shows how this environmental product information can be provided on basis of life cycle assessment methods, which voluntary schemes for environmental product information on construction products exist or are in development, what branch organisations are doing, and which developments are going on in Europe to harmonize these schemes.
