High-resolution image processing of gel defects in low-density polyethylene films provides some uniqueopportunities to screen gels indigenous to the resin from those introduced by the extruder. Qualitativeaspects of the technology allow the rapid recognition of extruder contributed gel defects related to gradetransitions, profile adjustments and resin stability. Application of these tools can be used to verify extruderreadiness for resin quality control testing as well as down stream processing.
