Preparation of powders and HVOF sprayed coatings for improved sliding properties by addition of solid lubricants

The results carried out in the present work showed that spray drying is an applicable method to manufacture multicomponent powders, which consist of Cr_3C_2-Ni hardmetal base and CaF_2 solid lubricant additions in the powder particles. Nearly corresponding amounts of solid lubricant can be retained in the HVOF sprayed coatings. Some decrease of wear resistance is evident due to solid lubricant additions, but the coatings possess still adequate wear resistance for practical purposes. Future studies should be focused on tribologi-cal testing of the Cr_3C_2-25Ni+CaF_2 coatings in various conditions.
