The fibre-optic telecommunication market continues to evolve dramatically. This presentation points out the latest economical evolutions in this moving market and shows the key roles that optical actuators such as MEMS and MOEMS will play in a near future (specially for key systems such as Optical Cross-Connects). This paper describes the current European state-of-the-art into the technologies for the manufacture of all-optical wavelength-handling components (routing, splitting, multiplexing, add-dropping, attenuating ...) and the position of Micro Technologies in terms of: 1.
