The Challenges In Solid Waste Management in Toronto

On January 1, 1998, the Regional Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto was amalgamated with the 6 local area municipalities within its borders to form the City of Toronto. Many of the services provided by the City of Toronto to its approximately 2.3 million citizens have been restructured since the amalgamation and continue to be improved. This presentation will present the challenges faced by the Solid Waste Management Services Division of the City of Toronto in trying to provide its services to the citizens of the City. It will focus on the restructuring of the division due to amalgamation, long term disposal plans, and waste diversion goals.
