Nifedipine and its photodegradation products have been subjected to innumerable studies whether as raw material or in dosage forms. Less attention is devoted to the possible modifications that UV light may induce on the others components of the dosage form and in particular on the functional polymers used to modulate the drug delivery rate from a controlled release device. To evaluate the effect of UV light on an extended release formulation of Nifedipine, some coated and uncoated tablets were produced and then irradiated for different times. Dissolution tests were performed to study possible modifications in the dissolution behaviour of irradiated tablets.
